About the Treasurer

The Treasurer’;s office is located at the Overisel Township Hall (A 4307 144 th Ave) and can be contacted at (269) 751-7030 or by e-mail at treasurer@overiseltownship.org.

The Treasurer is responsible for the collection, deposit and investment of all Township funds. The Treasurer directs the billing, collection and accounting of all property taxes levied by the Township.

We now accept credit card payments. We have partnered with AllPaid to provide credit cards as an option to pay your tax bills. AllPaid has a non-negotiable 2.95% fee on all payments (minimum $3.99) that will automatically apply to all credit card payments.

FAQ

Where will my taxes be mailed?
  • Tax bills will be mailed to either the property owner or the mortgage company in charge
    of the parcel.
  • If you do not use a mortgage company, you will receive a tax bill. If you do not receive
    your bill, please contact the office or email the treasurer.
  • It is the taxpayer’s responsibility to ensure the correct mailing address is on their bills. If
    mailing address is incorrect, please contact the treasurer or the assessor.
Will I receive a receipt?
  • If the bill is going to the property owner, a receipt will only be mailed if you check the
    “mail receipt” check box on the return stub, as the top portion of your bill is considered
    your receipt.
  • If the bill going to a mortgage company, a receipt will be mailed to the property owner
    upon payment.
  • If you make payment in office on Tuesday 9-5 a receipt will be given to you.
How can I pay my taxes?
  • Checks can be mailed to the PO Box, dropped in the door slot at the township hall, or paid in person at the township hall on Tuesdays 9–5.
  • We are partnered with AllPaid to accept credit card payments online and in person at the township hall.

AllPaid has a non-negotiable 2.95% fee on all payments (minimum $3.99) that will automatically apply to all credit card payments.

Summer Tax Information
  • Summer Tax Bills are mailed out July 1.
    • If you do not use a mortgage company, you will receive a tax bill.
    • If you do not receive your bill, please contact the office or email the treasurer.
  • Summer Tax Bills are due by September 14.
    • If the 14th falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the due date will be the following business day.
  • If a summer tax bill is received September 15–30 there will be an additional 1% interest applied. Every additional month following accrues another 1% interest.
  • The treasurer cannot accept any payments as of March 1st. As of March 1, all payments must go through Allegan County (269) 673-0260.
  • It is the taxpayers’ responsibility to ensure their tax bills are paid on time.
  • Summer Taxes Breakdown for PRE (Principal Residence Exemption) properties.
    • Non-PRE parcels will have an additional 9 mills for their school district.

Winter Tax Information
  • Winter Tax Bills are mailed out December 1.
    • If you do not use a mortgage company, you will receive a tax bill.
    • If you do not receive your bill, please contact the office or email the treasurer.
  • Winter Tax Bills are due by February 14.
    • If the 14th falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the due date will be the following business day.
  • If a winter tax bill is received February 15–28 there is an additional 3% penalty.
  • The treasurer cannot accept any payments as of March 1st. As of March 1, all payments must go through Allegan County (269) 673-0260.
  • It is the taxpayers’ responsibility to ensure their tax bills are paid on time.

What if I pay my taxes late?
  • Summer and Winter taxes may be paid to the Overisel Township Treasurer until February 28 at 5:00pm.
    As of March 1st, taxes MUST be paid to Allegan County (269) 673-0260.
    Any taxes received March 1st or after will be mailed back to taxpayer.
  • Late summer taxes accrue the following INTEREST:
    • September 15–30 – 1%
    • October – 2%
    • November – 3%
    • December – 4%
    • January – 5%
    • February – 6%
  • Late winter taxes accrue the following PENALTY:
    • February 15–28 – 3%
  • The local treasurer, County Treasurer, nor State Treasurer has authority to waive interest or penalties.
    Michigan law holds the taxpayer responsible to know that taxes are paid on time.
Summer Tax Deferment Information
  • Summer taxes can be deferred (postponed) until February 14 if your household income is less than $40,000 per year AND you meet ONE of the following:
    • You are a senior citizen (62+)
    • You are a paraplegic, hemiplegic, or quadriplegic
    • You are an eligible serviceman, veteran, or widow
    • You are totally and permanently disabled or blind

OR

  • Summer taxes may also be deferred for parcels classified and used as Agricultural Real Property, and the gross receipts of agricultural operations in the previous year are not less than your household income for the preceding calendar year.
  • Deferment forms must be filled out and returned by September 14.

Where can I look up property tax information?
Can I pay my taxes in advance
  • No, by law, we cannot collect any payments until the bills have been levied for each
    billing cycle (on July 1st and December 1st).
Does the bill have to be paid in one lump sum?
  • No. Once you receive your bill, you may begin making payments. Please remember that if the balance is not paid in full by the due date, interest will apply to only the unpaid balance as noted above. In addition, any remaining balance not paid by March 1st is turned over to the Allegan County Treasurer as noted above.
What happens if I send my payment by mail, and it is lost in the mail and never received?
  • Overisel Township is not responsible for tax payments that are mailed but not received. It is the responsibility of all taxpayers to ensure their tax payment is made on time. If you are concerned about mailing your payment, you may drop it off in the door slot at the township hall 24/7. Otherwise, if your payment does not clear your bank account within a few days (5 to 7 days) of mailing, please call or email Overisel Township to verify your payment has been received.
